My research is in the field of nonlinear dynamics and stochastic analysis, with an emphasis on applications in fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and micro/nano-electro-mechanical systems (M/NEMS) resonators. My goal is to understand, predict, and optimize engineering systems where nonlinearity and uncertainty or stochasticity play a major role. I am particularly interested in reduced-order modeling, and in systems where the nonlinearity can be exploited in order to enhance performance. For example, in FSI problems, reduced-order modeling can considerably lower the computational costs for complex high-dimensional nonlinear systems, and in the design and optimization of N/MEMS devices, performance enhancement via a system’s nonlinearities can be highly beneficial.
